I don't do this often but in his memory, I will write about him.

Watching movies like Flubber, Jumanji and Hook (especially Hook) on repeat even through my preteens, I have always loved watching Robin Williams on screen. He improvised quirky characters straight from his imagination; I wouldn't be surprised that almost all his movies his improvisations have been added to their scripts.

On August 11th, 2014 Robin Williams was found dead in his home in Tiburon, California. Law enforcement has released not too long ago of finding Williams hanging by a belt with wounds on his wrists. Many have stated that he continued to suffer from depression and his recent wife recently stated that he was also starting to suffer from Parkinson's disease.

Robin managed to do so much in what almost seems was still a short amount of time here on Earth. He managed to film 4 films before his death which included Night at the Museum 3 with Stiller which surely all will be rising in viewers upon release.

I know this is random but watching that unfold on TV just hit my childhood with a chronic punch. And sometimes I really do wish I never knew the circumstances of his death because it makes me think he didn't commit suicide, that someone else killed him. That's really rare for a suicidal to have two forms, slashes on the wrist and then hanging. Somewhat similar to Kurt Cobain's death; with high levels of cocaine and a gun with gunpowder residue as if used.

At the end, it doesn't matter anymore because Robin Williams is dead physically. His memory will live on through the lives he touched with his humor and compassion; through his work that continues to play on various TV screens worldwide.

Rest in peace Robin Williams.

I've been checking this blog's stats and have found that my post featuring a Betty Paige lighter has started to pick up popularity.

So why not a post all about her?!Honestly, I really didn't know much about her until recently. I randomly looked her up and found a video that just made me giggle.
Coquettish, coy, sensual, but never crass, she had an air about her of complete subtlety and acceptance over sexuality in an age where the opposite was supreme.

And get this, (I am imprrrressed) she was a straight-A student and got her Bachelors of Arts at Peabody college. A post from an anonymous source on IMDB, states she started modeling while looking for a secretary job in New York. Her official page doesn't mention it but it does confirm that she started modeling in New York.

She lost her fame upon religious groups and the government investigating her for exposing nudity to the public and basically accusing her of being too sexual for her own good (as I am sure those who hounded her may have thought).

She eventually evaded the eye of fame and stayed in the background until she was found and questioned before her death in 2008 (crazy).

Few documentaries were made regarding her life before, during, and after being a pin-up model. Two years ago, the documentary Bettie Page Reveals All was released featuring celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, Dita Von Teese, and Hugh Hefner. Definitely will check that out.

Her fame has stood 5 decades and counting; replicated in burlesque shows by fans who admire her work. Watching her videos, many in the modeling business and even our sisters can learn: you are beautiful, sexy, hot in any way you dress just by loving yourself, having confidence, and being brave in not giving a rat's ass about what anybody thinks. All of the legends we have lost so far are evidence such things exist.

Me: totally excited. One thing I have not shared with you but sharing now just for the sake of shared excitement: love dressing up. And I love when I dress up as a favorite comic book character or a character in an animated series.

Yes that is correct folks: I looooove cosplaying. The art of dressing up exactly or a remixed version of a comic book, cartoon or video game character. And here in NYC we cosplayers and fans of any type of show, anime, comics, are all about that.

Since 2006, the annual NYC "popular culture convention" (as quoted by their page) has been held at the Javits Center located in Manhattan, New York to showcase new video game demos, games, toys, merchandise and even generate talks with celebrities from popular shows like the Walking Dead, Regular Show, Dexter, and even movies like Silent Hill series, X-men movie series, Watchmen, Superman, Spiderman, and so on so forth.

picture of cosplayers at the event (taken from zimbio.com)

Fans from all over the US to different parts of the word of all the aforementioned can have the opportunity to get autographs, pictures with their favorite celebrity, free merchandise and even a special day of fame where numerous others would take pictures of their costumes.

However, attendance is not cheap and tickets are as most high demand products: first come first served.

But why all the excitement????

Comic-Con fans and or cosplayers will have the chance to purchase tickets online June 18th and for those who are just dying to get their tickets and are around the area: will be able to get tickets sooner by attending a special NYC Comic Con event at the Javits Center on June 14th, 2014 to June 15th, 2014.

a line-up of celebrities who have attended NYC Comic-Con
(picture from sugar.com)

And with the deals listed ($30/a day) at such a fancy location: who wouldn't be excited!
(SQUEEEEEAAAAAL!)

If you are a cosplayer at heart or on a regular day, feel free to comment with pictures and or just a description of your costume, any suggestions, and or even cosplaying-comic-con related info below.
Her songs express a wave of trip-hop, electro-pop, mixing with rap lyrics on occassion that remind you of when Toonami was on and you watched your favorite anime.
I know, I know. Where have I been? Well, I have been thinking a lot about whether to keep this blog or not since the beginning of this year. I realized that a lot has happened in my life that has limited my time in blogging. But I've decided I still love clothes and I will continue posting.

On that note, I recently found love again for stores like Spencers and Hot Topic. They have changed a lot throughout the past 10 years and have kept some of the original favorites.

Hot Topic now sells Too Fast clothing which is a store that used to be underground and now
through its popularity is being sold in stores like Hot Topic.

Hot Topic's Other Selections

Hot Topic continues not only in selling clothes that used to be underground but also selling band T-shirts. If you click on their website, you will find that they have categorized their band tees to meet the wants of customers who listen to different types of music. They also now have accessories of different shows that have grown in popularity such as Adventure Time, Doctor Who, and Regular Show. It is no longer just about the urban scene but also the nerdy hipster scene (if you can call it that).

Even Spencers now has cool and low-cost accessories as I once saw them selling back in 2005. They removed their customer points program and instead now have a piercing punch card program in which you receive a card that has about 12 circles. Every piercing purchase you get from Spencers, you get a hole punched on the card. Once all 12 circles are punched, you get 20% off your next purchase. Which in my opinion is not bad when the highest regular price on gauges that I have seen in a Spencers store is $19.99.

Honestly, such stores like Hot Topic (i.e Pac Sun, Journeys) continue to be expensive to me because of how frugal I am with my clothing and piercing accessories. Why spend 50 bucks on a shirt when I can spend half of that on material to make my own rockabilly dress.

However, it is good to know that such stores have brought back clothes and accessories that us, in the alternative dressing group, have cherished back in the 2000's. Hopefully it will remain that way.

So I guess I am just in for the new years already. I am back *detaches Van Winkle beard*. Seriously folks, thanks for still following. I appreciate the dedication. A lot of things have happened (as usual). Currently working on getting my goodreads reading challenge of 25 books done before the new gigantic baby comes and plunges vomits of doom. (ok ok, I know disgusting image).

Anywho, I have been following up with my other blog: Book Geek Week and have posted some book reviews. On the sidebar there are book trailers for you and any book lover's musing.

As for Rockinglicious news, I changed up on style lately. Don't get me wrong, I still love those alternative dressers out there (goths, punk rockers, emo, scene, skaters, general rockers, etc). However, I have realized that in the end I want to create my own style just for me.

I want to go outside and express myself. That means Monday I might be corporate goth, Monday evening I might be psychobilly chick on a date; Tuesday I am geeky girl with a fedora hat and suspenders, Wednesday-quirky sunflower hippy; so and so forth.

Always remember, be you. Don't be afraid to wear a pin that says "Loud as my music" or wear a kilt or wear vans from payless. Whatever it is: rock you and make sure your number#1 fan (your mirror) digs it, loves it, and absolutely eats it with joy.
("never begging for a paycheck").
I will be posting blog posts at random times until the summer. School is almost over so I have some pockets in time in which I will be posting some stuff.

FYI: if you like being in the know about what is going on outside the world, check out Democracy Now. You can get their app through google play or check out their website: democracynow.org. Never hurts to be informed.

In other news: I have been finding awesome stores online and getting some cool deals off of Etsy. The list goes as follows:

1. LttleShopofHorrors: With the motto "accessories for the alternative chick"; this store holds a variation of punk, psychobilly, and horror themed accessories for females who like to rock it. I bought the zombie bait necklace and got this hair pin with it. I wore it to work and got a nice compliment.

2. FunDotDot: A bracelet store based in Illinois, Chicago this store houses leather bracelets in different styles. Some involve a play in graphics and others are just colorful. I actually bought one with studs that had simple graphics on it. If you love leather bracelets, you will dig this store. Plus, they are sold at affordable prices. Durable+affordable= worth it. FYI: boys, you can also check out this store for your own accessory tastes.

3. ModifyU: I have a thing for creative gauges. If you stretch out your ears to whatever size it is, I think you should accessorize them in style. And this one sells just the right ones. I haven't bought from here yet, but I am planning to what with affordable prices and crazy colors and all. This store's guages are all made in polymer clay and they even have a few fake guages. The only con is that the store doesn't take custom listings.

4. HomeStudio: I don't know if you have noticed but lately there has been a trend of scrabble tile pendants. Just plain creative and there are so many stores out there in cyberspace doing these necklaces. I am not aware how this trend came about but I do recommend checking this one. The images on their scrabble tile necklaces are cute, fun, and sometimes even funny. They do receive custom sales so don't knock it until you try it.

5. WillsTshirts: Love old shows such as Xena the Warrior Princess, Roswell, Charmed, Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Well if you do: you will love this store. "Will Sandy" the Etsy owner of this Etsy shop sells shirts with images of the aforementioned shows along with keychains and tote bags.

Again, my apologies for being MIA but I do hope you find these finds cool enough to invest or at least spread the word.

Thanks for sticking with Rockinglicious!
Hey and a ding-bang-boo!

Just recently I found this awesome store on Etsy that was just too rock-ing-li-cious. I have to share. (excuse my girly-ness).

I always loved the idea of putting buttons of things you liked (i.e bands, funny sayings, icons) on bags, clothing, bookbags, maybe even shoes. Thus, my constant search of finding and buying buttons (along with patches) on Etsy, Amazon, and other online stores.

And thus, the awesome find on an Etsy store called Necromance Theatre. Owned by a college student who goes by the Etsy username of "Princess", Necromance Theatre holds listings of pins, brooches, and necklaces with images of alternative bands and artists edited in photoshop.

The pins are a bit overpriced, what with one being $3 (plus the shipping). However, when purchasing more than one item, shipping is free.

ello boys (picture courtesy of etsy.com/shop/NecromanceTheatre

As for the necklaces, they are pretty darn awesome since the pendants are shaped like guitar picks annnnnd they can be used by men and women. I definitelye, absolutely, and outrageously (MAHA!) recommend checking out her store if you are looking to get a $10 or less accessory for the bands you love. After all, there is nothing wrong with expressing your fandom.
Hey folks,
Hope all is well! I wanted to share with you this video I found of Kat Von D.

Recently, I have been looking at some of the articles posted in Etsy's blog and found an article posted about Kate Von D. You know me: I had to check it out! So I read on, and apparently Kate Von D shops a lot in Etsy. And not only that! About three months ago, she has been posting videos all about her closet in her youtube channel.

I found myself a bit shocked because most celebrities now usually shop at some high priced shop or even get their stuff custom made. And here was Kate Von D talking about buying stuff from Etsy sellers. It goes to show that you don't need to buy expensive clothing to rock out your style. If it helps you when you're suddenly on a budget for an indeterminate time: shop on clearance. Look for a sale on Etsy even. Not all items have expensive shipping and handling.

On another note: I am still thinking: why have I not known about Kat Von D's video series sooner! Gosh! *head swivels to the other way* But point: I found it and here I am sharing it with you (along with some helpful advice).

Til Next Blogpost,
Miss Bobo

Hey folks, hope the weeks going great with the new year hub bub and holiday cheer.
Came back because as previously stated, I am going to share with you 2 other bands I found just recently.

Last blogpost in 2012, I talked about Tiger! Tiger!, a band from Atlanta and another band that is NYC based called Peelander-Z.

Today I am going to share with you two bands; one from New York (woo! NYC represent) that has quite some political ammo along with a mix of trombone and guitar riffs; and another artist who was born in Paris and is now living in London known for her sound similar to that of Hole.

Let's start with the band from New York. The way I stumbled on this one was looking at concerts that were going on during the month of December for the Knitting Factory (venue) in Brooklyn. I always have this thing of checking out the music on youtube or the link provided by the website before venturing out towards the venue. Its a good thing to do if you don't like wasting your 10 bucks on music that is just not you. Once I found Outernational, I fell in love with their album "Todos Somos Ilegales". Combining elements of trombones, guitar & bass riffs, drums, powerful lyrics and the occasional accordion; Outernational stands out from most alternative bands. They are very pro-active with the messages in their songs. According to a Rolling Stones article, after releasing their album, they went on tour and played in places like Tijuana and California, meeting those who have crossed the border and war veterans. If you loved Rage Against the Machine and the powerful lyrics of songs like "Killing in the Name of" & "Testify", you will definitely dig Outernational.

As for the London based artist; her musical name is Madame So. I found her looking at some of the articles/blogposts on afropunk.com: a website centered on the afropunk movement. Using mostly drums and guitar riffs, Madame So brings a throwback to Hole & Polaris along with her own tint of lyrics in "Sell-by Date" and "Dig Deeper." And there is also the fact that her voice is smooth like melting sugar in your mouth. For those of you who love "Violet" & "This World" by Hole, you will definitely love Madame So. Check her out on her bandcamp website here.
HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYBODY!!! *blows foghorn and dances in confetti*.

Should have done that yesterday but here it is! *continues to tapdance*

Lately on my own time I have been looking for some shoes and handbags to start the new year. Out with the old and in with the new and if you can't get with the new then twist the old to make it new.

I did get a few new stuff under 20 bucks just to save myself some money.

One of them was this awesome handbag straight from this website called Justfab.com.

You can sign up as a member for free with using your email address and you can look for handbags and shoes for only 40 bucks. As a starting member you get $20 off your first purchase. After that the next month that follows, if you can't find what you are looking for or can't buy anything you can click on the button "skip the month" and that's that. The keywords here to click on the buttons because if you don't you get charged 40 bucks on your account as a member. Sounds tricky but you can take the risk if the shoes and handbags are worth it to you.

However, you can always check out amazon.com for rockin' shoes and handbags. Just recently I found some cool ankle boots that are warm inside and all velcro outside. Sounds tacky but the way they look is not.

No strings to tie, just side zippers to zip up and you're done. I got them in brown and so far they have gotten me warm for 3 hours before New Years ball dropped. Talk about awesome. I am planning to somehow put some studs on the straps to give it an edge. When I do, I'll post an update to see how it went, here and on Rockinglicious' tumblr. Otherwise, let me know what you think.
Hello Hello. Long time no talk. Hope those who are celebrating are having a happy Thanksgiving day and those who aren't celebrating: I still wish you a good day.

So now at the matter at hand:
Lately I have been music cruising. Listening to some new rockin' sounds and determining which ones to actually put my two cents about. So far I found four to recommend and I'll be breaking 2 of them down in this post.

The first one is a band from Atlanta named Tiger! Tiger! This year they have released a new album with a hot cover titled "Cut Them Where They Bleed" that blend retro 60-ish rock elements with garage sounds and punk riff/drums combo. They've been around since 2005 and have made a name for themselves in Atlanta, Georgia. They are currently signed with a record company called Chicken Ranch Records that have signed other good underground artists. I find this band unique in that not only do they have different play in vocals with different albums (male and female), but they also use instrumental elements that were used in the 1960's such as the organ and saxophone. For those of you who are into garage, punk, and retro melodies that remind you of music such done by artists like The Doors, I definitely recommend listening to this band. You can check their website (tigertigerrocks.com) or preview their stuff on bandcamp. If you dig their album I also recommend purchasing on their bandcamp page or on their Ranch Records page since searching them on iTunes can be a bit too hectic AND you save a $1.

picture of Peelander-Z from their official site

The second awesome band I found is called Peelander-Z. Peelander-Z started in NYC in 1998 and since their first U.S. National tour in 2002, have been continuously performing with their crazy antics and dressing in expression of inspiration of the Power Rangers & other Japanese and American pop Sci-Fi culture icons. Although, they started in NYC, their band members are straight from Japan and have never lost their spunk on stage. Listening to their music, I enjoyed the vivaciousness and strong spirit that have been put in songs such as "Star Bowling" from their most recent album. Their sound kinda reminds me of the Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi show that appeared in Cartoon Network for a short time (if you remember I quantumly high five you). Point: For those of you who loved Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi or love Japanese pop rock (no not J-pop) then I recommend checking this band out. You can look them up on iTunes with no mess (as long as you type it correctly) or you can check their Chicken Ranch Records page that provides links to their different pages.

Dead Sara

Hello all. Long time no post. Honestly, gotta say I had blog writer's block on what to post here and my apologies for that. But today things are different. Found an interesting band from a random list on Reverbnation, a website for underground and major artists.

Titled as Dead Sara, this band uses elements of blues, soul, and rock to make their own imprint of alternative rock. The vocals done mostly by Emily Armstrong & Siouxsie Medley are reminiscent of the era of the 70's. You could say that Armstrong sounds a bit like Janis Joplin.

With the addition of the drums (Sean Friday) and bass (Chris Null), the music becomes a fusion of rock, some grunge, and a little bit of punk. Their sound is a bit familiar and if you think about it, its similar to Veruca Salt & a little close to L7. Difference is this band will vary with sounds and don't provide the same rhythm for all of their songs. If you like Veruca Salt you will most likely dig this band. So why not check em out.

Til Next Blogpost,
Miss Bobo

Hi guys, long time no see. Hope you all are starting your October with a bang if not wish you the best on one.

Hectic as usual I have been lost in transit most of the time going places and meeting people. However big news!!!!

No Doubt just came out on September 25, 2012 with their new album Push and Shove and so far have been able to climb up the Billboards as #33. Folks at Billboard predict that with 125,000 they will be able to be No.3 in the charts.

It was really unexpected that the group will come back with a new album after being "on hiatus" since 2004 (according to the interview on their facebook page) and each going onto their own projects (unexpected babies included). But after their North American tour on 2009, the band decided to get together and make a new album . These past summer months passing by, their facebook page has been updated with new pictures: anticipating their new album Push and Shove.

Infused with old sounds and new sounds of ska, dancehall, and electronic pop, Push and Shove brings out the growth of No Doubt. You will find with songs like "Looking Hot" and "Undercover" the influence of the dancehall sound AND find their old ska elements in songs like "Settle Down" and "Push and Shove."With soft lyrics and Gwen Stefani's sultry voice. I definitely think with this new album they will be back on the charts as a cross-generational band. Hopefully they will be around for the long run.

Point: Check out their album.
Hey everybody! Hope your weekend is going well.

Just wanted to share with you a comic book I got yesterday. Its the fourth issue in the series and so far its good.

The plot centers on Ellis Patterson who was attacked and gets in a coma. While in coma, she ventures in a world called "The Garden". Meanwhile, her friends and family are still caught in turmoil, hoping she comes back from the coma.

So far, no one knows who attacked her or whether she knows her attacker. However, as the comic says no one is innocent. Who attacked Elle? And who are these people within "The Garden"?

I like the plot because its not predictable and has unexpected twists. The style to the illustration is my favorite: realistic with inking in all the right places. It does remind me a bit of the Grimm Fairy Tales series with some of the scenes connected to fairy tales. Definitely recommend to pick up.
Hi fellow Rockinglicious readers, it's been a long time since I have written and let me just say things are happening again. This past Saturday and onward has been hectic with school, work and all sorts of things. However, I still look forward to writing stuff for you guys.

The reason why I say Saturday in the beginning is because this past weekend was the Afropunk festival. I myself didn't even know at the time until later on in the afternoon when a friend texted me "yo, come down to the Afropunk festival" (!!!). Once I got out of work, I set myself on the mission to primp, polish, and prepare because I was not going to let it slip out of my fingers. Once I headed out the door I was determined. I ran through some mishaps but eventually I got there and found the stage in which Das Racist was going to play.

Now, I never mentioned them, but now I will explain: Das Rascist is this epic (in my opinion) rap group that started out in Brooklyn and are now gaining quite a momentum. Their lyrics usually include references to stuff you learn in college or maybe high school (if your classes are that "high up" in enrichment) and give their own, dare I say, poetic twists. I love the fact that they bring something different than their usual "I smoke that and hit that and ride that and yadayada I am the biggest dog in town" (ok, came out corny so don't count for me to know how to rap). Either way, even if I am a rock girl at heart I still have my few fave rappers and Das Racist is one of them (will be writing a blog post on them soon).

Back to the festival......

The festival didn't end until 11 pm even though they said 9 pm on their flyer. There was a lot of technical difficulties with some of the machinery on stage but no worries it went on. And let me tell you about the awesomeness of this festival: there was a whole skateboarding and bike tricks going on the side that was just awesome. This went on for the whole day. In-cre-di-ble.

Not only that, while Das Rascist was playing there was a whole moshpit I had to take part. HAD TO. It was awesome. People crowd surfing and pushing and dancing. Eventually with all the moshing I got close enough to the stage. I did lose my glasses at some point with all the moshing. I gave up on that once I realized that it was 1.too dark to find them 2. there were people walking around making it harder to find and 3. Erykah Badu was on the green stage and I couldn't miss it. SO ....I headed across to the green stage without glasses (oh well). Took a while for her to come up and sing but it was worth it. At the end it was Miss Janelle Monae, but for personal reasons I ditch that and headed home. It was the best night ever! Oh and I hope you noticed: I never mentioned paying a ticket stub because yes, IT WAS FREE! So......

Lesson of the story is: if you are in NYC area;
Can't believe summer is almost over and already I see leaves on the ground at certain NYC areas. Kid you not. I actually look forward to the fall because of all the awesome crazy outfits people put together. I know this sounds ultra fashionista: but yes I definitely dig layer coordination.

Just recently I have been preparing myself for the fall by shopping new clothes. Working and going to school needs some gear (*gets all serious*)........

OK, OK I really like getting new clothes for school and such. Any whoo, I found myself both at Rainbows and Forever 21 and I found myself more dazzled by the Forever 21 at Union Square (Manhattan, NY for those who are not in the NYC area).
It was a throwback circa 2011 with the random lace I found here and there. And I am not going to lie to you I did buy a few things from there. I got a plain black comfortable skirt for $9.80 and a bunch of other stuff that will be posted on Rockinglicious tumblr. The skirt you see here above was actually one of the items I really wanted to buy along with the shirt you see on your left. I like to have the best of both worlds even if it means going in the guys' section. But both were not on my budget so I had to choose. There are some awesome finds there for 10 bucks or less for the gals. So don't hesitate to check it out, you might just find something along your budget and within your style. As for the guys, the items were a bit too expensive. Next season they should widen the section more.

Sorry to be MIA again been busy with work and brainstorming ideas for this blog. (BTW: thank you so much for continuing to follow my blog and sticking with it. keep rocking!)

So, I was able to find some good finds for guys. This outfit right here is plain but hey, you can show that alternative-styling spunk with accessories. Sometimes, places where you work at might not be cool with graphic shirts (a bit sucky though). So why not put on a light black blazer with some rolled up sleeves, crisp pair of jeans (make sure to iron!!!) a white shirt, and a pair of black vans or converses.

It's hot so you might want to splash up some color so you don't cook under the sun while being on the go. And if you know you gotta keep it conservative you can always get a small one-row studded bracelet or maybe even a nice bracelet like the one you see on the left.

Believe it or not I found this baby at Hot Topic's online website along with other great bracelets for less than 10 bucks. It's not bad and it will last you longer than 2 months. I found more than the usual great 3, so please don't hesitate just because some hipsters got caught on to Hot Topic. It still has some great finds, and no one has to know, right? Having these days lately in hot summer days while being a working young lady its tough.

Wearing blazers and dark colors isn't helpful either. Black cotton can absorb the sun and burn you more than if you were closed in a tanning booth (....maybe I just exaggerated just a little).

However, for those of you who still want to rock it. You can always go with a tank top and a white vest with a dark blue or grayish skirt and a pair of panty hose or lacy leggings. Check out your local thrift stores. Believe it or not I actually found a vest similar to the one you see here in white with less buttons and in black. It goes well with a light top you can easily find for cheap at a thrift store or on sale within trendy places like the one below which is from Necessary Clothing.

Check out Rockinlicious tumblr and you will find soon enough pictures of my rendition of a rocking work outfit. You gotta make do with what you can do right? I am looking out for the alternative guys out there, too. Expect a summer outfit for guys and a dating combo for both guys and gals soon enough.
As life is blasting through this summer, I have been stuck on a few tracks of some albums. One in particular is Hostile Takeover by ssssnake (exactly how its pronounced too). I saw this guy live at Spike Hill a few weeks ago and got connected with his album, Hostile Takeover, which include the tracks he performed.
"Wolf and the Bear", "Under the Snow," and "Slow" have been stuck on me and have been 4-starred on my iTunes library.

Ssssnake is a "hip-hop, funk, and gospel-inflected soul project" managed, produced. and performed by Noah Tabakin, a man all the way from Chicago.

While on stage, he tends to not only sing but include the audience in his performances. Seeing him at Spike Hill up and close, I saw he will dance and move around while performing. I think he knows his tracks are irresistibly danceable (sorry Webster Dictionary) so he dances to them too while involving some humor. He of course, encourages dancing from his audience and includes any brave souls who do in his performances. Right now he is on a tour from Ohio to all the way in Austin. (Right now he is on his way to atlanta).

On his website you can play the tracks and buy them at whatever price you want if you really dig this album. However, I suggest at least a dollar or more because this guy really puts himself in his music.

If you want to find out more of this guy you can check his website: http://ssssnake.com/
I recently found through a friend of a free PUNK party at Webster Hall that starts at 11 pm every Wednesday.

I went this Wednesday and found myself smack dab in some 80's/90's punk/goth throwback. There was your occasional emo hairdo's on guys, random hipster, and the frequent goth-punk rockers.

This party doesn't go in full swing until midnight when the occasional group of shameless girls come in to show off their bods for a strip tease contest. The prize winner gets 100 bucks while the guy who chooses to be the receiving end of it, gets a free lap dance on stage. I was astounded because I never seen a stripper let alone some random girl throw off her bra in person. But that was a first that night.

If you're in New York City and you want to have a crazy rock (mostly punk) party I recommend going here. It's not that crazy but there is the occasional BDSM moment where a guy gets handcuffed and gagged. I love the fact that there is oldies and fake smoke with a tattoo section in the back. YES! you get tatts at this place. I didn't get a chance to figure out the price range but I would def like the idea of getting inked while being at a party. The only few cons I found is that 1. there is no mosh pit: people are sensitive in getting hit especially the girls; 2. There is not much dancing involved (yes, you can dance to some of the music). 3. people go into cliques and aren't much to talk with other people that aren't seated with them unless there is a hook up to be had.

But this event is free so why not show off some lacey goth/punk duds. Doesn't hurt to try.

UMM9AYX53R7B
Miss Bobohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09968363208156147417noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5726542484807911611.post-16818858387925326362012-06-10T00:34:00.000-07:002012-06-10T00:56:31.960-07:00Grimm's Snow White is Back?

For most fairy tales dealing with a princess there is always a bad, a good, and the cliche happy ending. Recently, with the release of Snow White and The Huntsman, fairy tales aren't just about cliche endings:

Dealing with the grief of a beloved queen, a wife, and mother; a king marries a woman he finds in mysterious circumstances. She is beautiful and fair but holds a deep dark secret of a curse that will bound her to the king's daughter, Snow White (Kristen Stewart). As the new Queen finds out Snow White's role, Snow escapes and is therefore hunted by The Huntsman under the Queen's orders.

I just got home watching this movie and found it interesting to get into with such intense detail which I am inferring is mostly due to the amount of computer graphics. The way this story is shown is waaaay different than the Disney version. It's resemblance is more geared towards the Brother Grimm's original tale of Snow White. The evil Queen is given more of a human face than what Disney failed to do. And of course the ending is not your stereotypical buttered up ending.

As for the acting: Charlize Theron did an excellent job as the Evil Queen proving that cruelty takes more than just the talking. Chris Hemsworth who most people remember as Thor, did awesome chopping bodies and fighting minions of what seems to be made of black shards of glass. As for Kristen Stewart, there was more effort given than her usual bland facial expressions in showing a rebellious Snow White. She could still have given more of an oomf to her character but her acting was good enough to portray the "fairness" of Snow White.

Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Stewart

All in all, I thought this movie was better than I expected. The graphics were astounding in capturing the beauty and immensity of what kingdoms would actually look like as a Brother's Grimm story. There is a realistic historical factor exposed in the wardrobe and dialogue, specifically the accents, that give the movie a good Brother's Grimm punch. Wouldn't recommend to pay a movie stub for this but rather wait for the DVD to come out to watch it at a cheaper price. However, if you can't wait to bite into this apple, then be my guest.
